WPTTS Lead Release

Tarpon Anglers Club, LLC announces formation of the “Women’s Professional Tarpon Tournament Series” (WPTTS)

Boca Grande, FL – 21 February 2010 – Tarpon Anglers Club, LLC, the organizer and producer of the “Professional Tarpon Tournament Series” (PTTS) Tarpon fishing tournaments and television show, is announcing the formation of a Tarpon fishing tournament series, the “Women’s Professional Tarpon Tournament Series” (WPTTS).

The WPTTS will consist of three, 3-hour, single day tournaments, with an entry fee of $500 per team, per event, and a purse of nearly $100,000 in cash and prizes for the series and Team of the Year Race.  First prize for each event will be $10,000, and the Reactor Team of the Year will receive limited edition Reactor® Diamond Ion watches for each member of the team, a $25,000 prize package.

“We are very excited about the WPTTS,” said Joe Mercurio, VP/GM of the Tarpon Anglers Club. “We continued to see the popularity of our Ladies Day event grow, and received numerous requests by those anglers to hold more events.”

Since it’s inception the Tarpon Anglers Club has held a “Ladies Day” exhibition event in conjunction with the PTTS.  In previous years the PTTS Ladies Day event consisted of a field of over 60 teams featuring 3 female anglers, a Captain, and Mate competing in the single day, 3-hour event.  The WPTTS format will mirror the format of the previously held Ladies Day event, but teams will accrue points based on the PTTS points system to decide the winner of the Reactor Watch Team of the Year Race.

With over 150 female anglers competing, the WPTTS will be the largest and richest Women’s fishing series held in the United States.  According to the US Fish & Wildlife Service, fishing ranks as the 9th most popular participation sports among American women, and women make up 30% of all anglers in the United States.

“The WPTTS is an excellent venue for female anglers to showcase their talents and get recognized for their angling achievements.” Mercurio added.
